Distributed Systems Engineer 5 - Billing Platform
Join Netflix's Billing Platform team and help shape the future of our subscription management systems. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate and compliant billing for over 325 million subscribers worldwide.
About the Role
The Billing Platform team is responsible for subscription management, invoice lifecycle, tax computation, gift cards, and discounts. We design and operate highly available, fault-tolerant distributed systems. Our goal is to deliver simple and reliable billing experiences for our members.
What You'll Do
- Build Netflix’s real-time tax calculation platform for various business lines, including Consumer, Ads, and Partnerships.
- Redesign and modernize invoicing systems to enhance user experience and streamline data contracts.
- Collaborate closely with product, finance, legal, and engineering teams.
- Take end-to-end ownership of projects, ensuring compliance and accuracy in billing.
What We're Looking For
- A background in building billing systems or tax platforms, ideally in business-to-consumer settings.
- Experience in designing and developing reliable, scalable distributed systems using Java, Spring Boot, or similar technologies.
- Familiarity with NoSQL and SQL multi-region databases like Cassandra and Aurora Postgres.
- Strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships with cross-functional teams.
- Comfort with ambiguity and a proactive approach to defining requirements.
- A high degree of ownership and accountability, managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Pragmatic decision-making skills, balancing technical choices with business goals.
- A growth mindset with a continuous drive to learn and adapt to new technologies.
- A commitment to systems excellence, with attention to detail.
- Understanding of finance compliance, including audit and SOX requirements.
Nice to Have
- Experience with event-driven architecture and workflow orchestration frameworks.
- A BS degree (or higher) in Computer Science or a related field with 6+ years of experience.
- Experience with tax engines such as Vertex.
- Experience with 24/7 on-call support and resolving production issues independently.
- Familiarity with large-scale data processing frameworks like Spark and Flink.
What We Offer
The salary range for this role is $388,000.00 - $619,000.00, depending on location. We do not offer bonuses. You can choose how much of your compensation you want in salary versus stock options each year.
