Security Engineer - Infrastructure Security

About the Role

OpenAI is looking for a Security Engineer to join our Infrastructure Security (InfraSec) team. In this role, you will help protect the core of OpenAI’s research and production environments, which include GPU supercomputing clusters, multi-cloud infrastructure, datacenters, networking, storage, and critical services that support our advanced AI models.

What You'll Do

• Design and build security controls across various layers, including physical hardware, firmware, operating systems, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD.
• Work with engineering and security teams to implement security enhancements and control changes across our infrastructure.
• Manage high-impact projects such as checkpoint encryption, network isolation, secret management, and machine identity.
• Adopt a generalist approach to security, balancing expertise with a broad technical skill set to meet evolving challenges.

What We're Looking For

• A deep understanding of security principles, best practices, and common vulnerabilities.
• A proactive mindset with the ability to identify and address security gaps through automation and tooling.
• A proven track record of delivering scalable solutions and making impactful changes in real-world projects.
• Expertise in securing cloud platforms like Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure, particularly in multi-cloud environments.
• Experience securing on-premises deployments and datacenters.
• Familiarity with container security, orchestration security, and authentication/authorization.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to critically assess security risks.
• Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• A collaborative spirit, eager to work with cross-functional teams to build secure and reliable systems.

• Experience with machine learning models and their specific security needs.
