Senior/Lead Software Data Engineer (Roads Team)

Join Mapbox as a Senior/Lead Software Data Engineer on our Roads Team. In this role, you will own the development and improvement of data processing pipelines that support our mapping and navigation features.

About the Role

Mapbox is a leading real-time location platform, providing tools for navigation of people, packages, and vehicles. Our Roads Team is essential in building global road networks that enhance user experiences.

What You'll Do

• Take ownership of existing data processing pipelines and work on scaling and improving them.
• Design and implement new data processing pipelines.
• Collect and monitor performance metrics.
• Discuss and implement security best practices.

What We're Looking For

• Good knowledge of at least one programming language (C++, Python, Scala, or Java).
• Experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, IAM, EMR, Glue, Athena, Kinesis) or any other cloud platform.
• Comfortable with SQL and a thorough understanding of SQL engine basics.
• Proficient understanding of distributed computing principles.
• Experience with at least one workflow management tool, such as Airflow, Oozie, or Luigi.
• Strong analytical thinking and the ability to justify technical decisions.
• Creative, resourceful, and innovative problem solver.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken.

Nice to Have

• Prior experience in the mapping, navigation, or automotive industry.
• Hands-on experience with data processing platforms/frameworks (Spark or other).

The annual compensation for this role ranges from $75,000 to $112,000 (salaries are in USD). Actual compensation will depend on individual qualifications assessed during the interview process.
