About the Role

The Site Reliability Engineer II will manage the health, tuning, and lifecycle of the Linux OS and Kubernetes control plane in self-hosted environments. You will support OpenTable’s development and production container infrastructure. In this role, you will collaborate with engineering teams worldwide as a subject matter expert for Kubernetes and other technologies. You will work on high-impact projects, support team goals, and maintain good communication with stakeholders. Expect to help build new projects, resolve infrastructure incidents, and participate in an on-call rotation.

What You'll Do

• Administer our container platform (Kubernetes/Istio)
• Manage configuration infrastructure (Puppet, Ansible)
• Handle SSL certificate management
• Oversee Vault and Consul
• Operate CDN & Message Bus (Akamai, Kafka)
• Manage cloud services (AWS)
• Implement various security initiatives

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of hands-on Linux experience (Ubuntu, CentOS, etc.) with deep knowledge of Linux internals, including kernel tuning and process management.
• Understanding of systems administration concepts, including Linux networking and custom package management.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as GoLang, Python, Ruby, Perl, or Bash.
• Experience building and maintaining Kubernetes clusters from scratch.
• Experience in incident response and root cause analysis of service disruptions.
• 3+ years of experience with configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or SaltStack.
• Ability to learn new technologies quickly and engage in technical discussions.
• Experience with operating messaging systems like Kafka or RabbitMQ in production.

Nice to Have

• Understanding or experience with cloud computing (AWS, GCE, Azure).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines using tools like GitHub, Jenkins, or Docker registry.
• Experience with K/V stores such as Zookeeper, Redis, etcd, or Consul.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (Proxmox, VMware, OpenStack).
• Experience with monitoring and alerting systems (Sensu, Prometheus, Nagios).
• Experience working with a globally distributed team.
• Experience with Windows Server OS.
