Software Development Engineer III - Telemetry

Join Mapbox as we build a new Telemetry team to enhance our navigation, maps, and search products. In this role, you will help design and operate critical services and data pipelines that manage large volumes of device and geospatial data.

About the Role

You will work closely with Engineering Leaders to shape the vision of our Telemetry team. This role requires collaboration and communication skills to ensure the success of our initiatives across the company.

What You'll Do

• Collaborate with your team to identify and define tasks.
• Execute tasks and ensure timely delivery with high quality.
• Design systems that can grow with Mapbox’s customer base.
• Promote operational excellence by testing and monitoring systems, writing documentation, and providing on-call support.
• Reduce technical debt and share knowledge with teammates to enhance application performance.
• Foster a culture of collaboration, transparency, creativity, and data-driven decision-making.

What We're Looking For

• 8+ years of experience in building scalable, high-volume, low-latency backend services.
• 3+ years of experience in building data pipelines capable of handling petabytes of data.
• Eagerness to learn various test stacks and languages, including Python, NodeJS, TypeScript, Rust, C++, and AWS (CDK, ECS, Fargate, Step Functions, Lambda, S3, etc.).
• Knowledge of global data security standards.
• Familiarity with code versioning tools like GitHub.
• Ability to engage quickly and contribute to initiatives.
• Self-starter with a focus on communication and outcomes.
• Strong analytical skills to develop hypotheses and communicate findings.
• Desire to mentor and share expertise through documentation and discussions.
• Commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• High-quality mindset, including writing unit tests and addressing defects proactively.

Nice to Have

Experience with AI integration in engineering workflows is a plus.
