Software Engineer - Infrastructure Security

About the Role

OpenAI is looking for a Security Software Engineer to join our Infrastructure Security (InfraSec) team. In this role, you will help protect our core research and production environments, including GPU supercomputing clusters and multi-cloud infrastructure. You will design and build essential security services that ensure the reliability and safety of our AI systems.

What You'll Do

• Architect and implement production-grade security services such as authentication systems, access brokers, and key management platforms.
• Collaborate with infrastructure and research engineers to integrate security into high-performance compute clusters.
• Develop automation and detection tools to identify and mitigate risks in large-scale cloud and on-prem environments.
• Lead initiatives like line-speed encryption and network isolation to enhance security for emerging AI workloads.
• Participate in design reviews and threat modeling to ensure new systems are built with strong security foundations.

What We're Looking For

• Strong software engineering skills in languages like Python, Go, Rust, or C/C++.
• Experience building or operating critical security infrastructure, such as authentication services and key-management systems.
• Deep understanding of security principles and common vulnerabilities.
• Expertise in securing large-scale cloud platforms, including multi-cloud networks.
• Familiarity with container security and modern authentication standards.
• A proactive mindset to identify and address security gaps through automation.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex security concepts.
• Excitement about working with cross-functional teams to build secure systems.

Nice to Have

• Experience with service meshes and orchestration security.
