Senior Data Engineer

Join ActiveState as a Senior Data Engineer. In this role, you will design and maintain data pipelines that help our teams access reliable information. Your work will be essential in driving a data-first culture within the company.

About the Role

ActiveState enables teams to enhance their security while boosting productivity. We are looking for someone with a strong background in data management to help us secure open source code. You will work on building our systems to find and manage data effectively.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and Maintain Scalable Data Infrastructure: Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using tools like Airflow and Athena. Ensure efficient data ingestion, transformation, and analysis.
  • Enhance Data Models and Visualization: Expand the company-wide data model for better reporting accuracy. Create user-friendly dashboards in Tableau for meaningful insights.
  • Ensure Data Quality and Documentation: Implement monitoring systems for data quality. Write documentation to help teams access and interpret data effectively.
  • Drive a Data-First Mindset Across Teams: Collaborate with various departments to uncover insights and promote best practices in data usage.

What We're Looking For

  • At least five years of experience with ETL processes, data pipelines, and data infrastructure.
  • Proficiency in Python (preferred) or another programming language like Go, Perl, Ruby, or Java.
  • Experience with data management platforms such as Athena, Snowflake, or Redshift.
  • Skilled in visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or Google Data Studio.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in structured and unstructured datasets.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • A practical approach to data ownership, ensuring stakeholders have the resources they need.

Nice to Have

  • Experience in build engineering for languages like Java, Go, and Rust.
  • Knowledge of open source projects and culture, especially in dependency management.
  • Familiarity with open-source data processing tools like Kafka, Hadoop, or Airflow.
  • Background in cloud-based data engineering, particularly in AWS or GCP.
  • Previous experience in sales or marketing analytics.
  • Contributions to open-source projects and communities.
