Join Our Team as a Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer

We are seeking a Sr. Staff Software Development Engineer to join our remote team in the Netherlands. In this role, you will design and build shared platform services that make Zscaler’s global infrastructure cloud-agnostic. You will work closely with distributed systems, creating microservices that help product teams deploy efficiently without relying on public cloud providers.

About the Role

This is a fully remote position reporting to the Senior Manager of Software Development Engineering within the Zero Trust Exchange department. Your contributions will be vital in enhancing our infrastructure and ensuring our systems are robust and scalable.

What You'll Do

• Build cloud-agnostic shared services to reduce dependencies on public cloud providers.
• Engineer high-scale distributed systems and microservices for global engineering teams.
• Create high-quality technical documents, including architectural diagrams and system designs.
• Implement data and messaging solutions using PostgreSQL, Kafka, Redis, and Druid.
• Collaborate with architects on service design and participate in on-call rotations.

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with 3+ years in a Staff or Lead role on large-scale distributed systems.
• Proficiency in Java and Go for building production-grade microservices in a Linux environment.
• Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and managing containerized services.
• Deep knowledge of datastores and messaging systems, including PostgreSQL, MySQL, Kafka, and Redis.
• Strong skills in technical documentation, focusing on architecture and system design.

Nice to Have

• Experience with application-level integration and understanding of database engines.
• Experience in cloud-abstraction projects to reduce reliance on proprietary cloud APIs.
• Advanced debugging skills for analyzing bottlenecks in distributed systems.
