About the Role

In this position, you'll combine your engineering skills with a focus on creating software that enhances the functionality of payroll businesses. Our platform supports the movement of money, tax calculations, and compliance workflows for many companies. You'll help transform complex infrastructure into user-friendly systems for our partners and operators.

What You'll Do

• Address complex challenges on our platform by designing and building products that simplify payroll infrastructure.
• Manage projects from start to finish, including problem identification, solution design, implementation, and iteration based on user feedback.
• Collaborate closely with product, design, and operations teams to understand the workflows and challenges faced by payroll operators.
• Create internal and partner-facing tools that enhance the visibility and reliability of payroll processes.
• Improve our systems by refining workflows, architecture, and tools for developers and operators.
• Demonstrate clear thinking through your code, proposals, and diagrams to help the team align and progress together.
• Elevate our work quality by providing thoughtful feedback, mentoring teammates, and ensuring we deliver high-quality results.

What We're Looking For

• Experience with staff-level ownership and delivery of production systems from design to deployment.
• Background in building internal tools, developer platforms, or product systems that support complex workflows.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous problems and bring clarity through design and collaboration.
• Comfort with debugging complex systems and resolving issues across multiple services.
• Strong communication skills to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Proficiency in Python or Go; experience with Django, React, or TypeScript is a plus.

Nice to Have

Experience with complex operational workflows and a strong understanding of payroll systems would be beneficial.

The salary for this role is based on experience, qualifications, and location:

• In San Francisco, NYC, LA, and Seattle, the expected range is between $200,000 and $247,500.
• For all other locations, the expected range is between $180,000 and $235,400.
