At Kraken, we're building the future of crypto. As a Staff Product Designer for Breakout, you will play a key role in shaping the user experience for our trading platform. You'll work with a talented team to create intuitive and high-performance designs that empower traders.

About the Role

As a Staff Product Designer, you will be part of a cross-functional team that includes product managers, engineers, and designers. Your focus will be on enhancing the Breakout experience while ensuring consistency with Kraken’s Pro and Trading teams. This role requires a deep understanding of design in a fast-paced, technical environment.

What You'll Do

• Define scalable UX patterns for trading, accounts, KYC, and performance tracking.
• Lead the redesign and modernization of Breakout’s core web and mobile experiences.
• Simplify complex financial and trading concepts into clear, fast, and legible interfaces.
• Drive product strategy alongside Product and Engineering teams.
• Establish design systems, standards, and best practices across teams.
• Collaborate with Marketing to ensure seamless user journeys.
• Prototype and test quickly, balancing discovery with delivery.
• Mentor others and raise the craft bar through hands-on execution.

What We're Looking For

• 7+ years of product design experience, including senior or staff-level roles.
• Experience designing complex, data-heavy, or technical products (fintech, trading, SaaS, or similar).
• Strong product thinking that balances user needs, business goals, and technical constraints.
• Experience leading large-scale redesigns or modernization initiatives end-to-end.
• Deep understanding of UX systems, interaction design, and information architecture.
• Ability to design fast, high-signal interfaces where speed and clarity matter.
• Comfort working closely with engineers and understanding technical tradeoffs.
• Experience creating and scaling design systems and reusable patterns.
• Strong prototyping skills to validate ideas quickly.
• Clear communicator who can influence stakeholders and articulate rationale.
• A portfolio demonstrating ownership, craft, and measurable impact.

Nice to Have

• Experience in trading or crypto, or familiarity with financial markets and trading workflows.
• Experience working on professional tools or power-user products.
• Experience in startup or high-growth environments.
• Experience designing responsive or mobile-first trading experiences.
