Staff Product Designer, Security & Compliance
GitLab is looking for a Staff Product Designer to lead the design of complex security experiences. In this role, you will mentor fellow designers and enhance the quality of our Security experience.
About the Role
As a Staff Product Designer for Security & Compliance, you will focus on creating user-friendly security experiences. These experiences will help organizations protect their software supply chain, manage vulnerabilities, and meet compliance requirements. Your work will involve translating complex security concepts into clear and usable designs for developers and security teams.
Your initial focus will be on Software Supply Chain Security, including areas like signing and verification and malicious package detection. Over time, you will work on a broader range of security and compliance projects, collaborating closely with Product Management and Engineering to ensure features connect smoothly into customer workflows.
What You'll Do
- Lead design for security and compliance experiences: Drive end-to-end design for complex workflows, including application security scanners and vulnerability management.
- Translate technical complexity into clarity: Work with experts to create accessible experiences for various users, from security practitioners to developers.
- Partner cross-functionally: Coordinate with multiple product groups to ensure cohesive experiences and maintain design intent during development.
- Elevate craft and quality: Show excellence in interaction and visual design, providing thoughtful feedback in design reviews.
- Contribute to the design system: Help improve the Pajamas Design System by proposing new components and identifying reusable patterns.
- Mentor and support others: Coach other designers and assist in onboarding new team members.
- Ground work in research: Conduct usability studies and collaborate with UX Research to validate problems and incorporate insights.
What We're Looking For
- Experience leading design on complex workflows requiring cross-functional collaboration.
- A strong portfolio showcasing end-to-end product design work.
- Background in security, compliance, DevSecOps, or B2B SaaS products.
- Experience mentoring designers and enhancing team craft.
- Ability to communicate complex topics clearly for different audiences.
- Excellent communication skills for presenting work and facilitating alignment.
- Systems thinking and experience with design systems.
- Experience working in remote teams.
- Proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools.

The base salary range for this role is $125,000 - $200,000 USD. This range reflects the base salary rate in the United States and does not include bonuses, equity, or benefits.
